ETHYLENE ANALYZER
The specifications
for most ethylene and propylene products result in the need to perform several
gas chromatographic analyses on multiple instruments, in most laboratories
today. CIC's E/PA-1 (Ethylene/Propylene Analyzer) employs up to three different
detectors, reducing the number of instruments necessary for the required
analyses.
The chromatogram
in Figure 1 shows a familiar FID analysis for hydrocarbons and the insert shows
a 50 ppb acetylene peak.

The chromatogram in Figure 2 was obtained using
a PDID (Pulsed Discharge Ionization Detector). Detection limits at 100
ppb are typical.

The valving, columns and pneumatics for this detector are all
contained in a purged housing to ensure detector stability and analytical
accuracy on oxygen and nitrogen.
Ethylene samples are injected by a gas sampling valve while head-pressurized propylene samples (see our Propylene Analyzer) are either injected by liquid sampling valve or utilize CIC's flow-through vaporization system followed by gas sample valve injection.
